The Cardiovascular Genome-Phenome Study (CVGPS) is a collaboration among AHA, Boston University (BU) and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), the academic coordinating center homes, respectively, of the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) and the Jackson Heart Study (JHS). This program allows two or more primary investigators from disparate disciplines, with histories of innovative collaborations, to work on a project that is achievable only with efforts from both disciplines. Collaboration should foster innovative, unique and novel discoveries and may combine basic, clinical, population and/or translational research.

Announcing Two New Strategically Focused Research Network Topics!
|The AHA Board of Directors has approved the topics for the next two Strategically Focused Research Networks (SFRN). The fourth SFRN will focus on WOMEN and the fifth SFRN will focus on HEART FAILURE. |
A Network is comprised of three to four institutions, or Centers, working on three projects each that are focused on one strategic area.

AHA/CHF Congenital Heart Disease Research AwardsThe Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) has partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to establish the AHA/CHF Congenital Heart Disease Research Awards. A minimum of $2.5 million will be awarded over the next two years to provide support for investigators who are actively conducting basic, clinical, population or translational research directly related to congenital heart disease.
Interested parties should submit an application to any AHA investigator-initiated program offered by their local affiliate or the AHA Association-wide Research Program.

New AHA Research Policy AnnouncementThe AHA has implemented open science policies that impact research funded by the AHA. The AHA’s public access policy requires that all journal articles resulting from AHA funding should be made freely available in PubMed Central within 12 months of publication. The AHA’s open data policy requires grant applicants to include a data sharing plan as part of the application process. Any research data that is needed for independent verification of research results must be made freely and publicly available within 12 months of the end of the funding period (and any no-cost extension). Three New Cardiac Arrest Science Categories AddedIn order to stimulate research in the field of cardiac arrest and optimize the peer review process, the AHA has created three new Major Science Classifications for research funding submissions:
Cardiac Arrest/Resuscitation: Basic Science
Cardiac Arrest/Resuscitation: Clinical Science
Cardiac Arrest/Resuscitation: Population/Health Services Science
There are not special resuscitation awards. Applicants for research funding select the category and subcategories that best describe their research. These science categories apply to all research award types and mirror the AHA study sections.
AHA plans to create dedicated peer review groups for each of the three cardiac arrest/resuscitation categories. At least 25 applications are required for each dedicated study section. This is an exciting opportunity to advance research in cardiac arrest and resuscitation.

Opportunities for funding are offered through the AHA National Center and our seven affiliates. The Association-wide programs are available to eligible investigators and institutions across the US. The affiliate programs are limited to eligible investigators and institutions in their respective geographical areas.
The Association-wide Research Program and its seven affiliates offer two funding cycles per year -- in winter and summer. Not all programs are offered at each cycle. Only the ones listed on this page are available at this time. Check program descriptions for restrictions in regards to applying to both affiliate and Association-wide program offerings within the same funding cycle.
The National and affiliate offices will be referred to as Funding Components in Grants@Heart.
American Heart Association research awards are limited to non-profit institutions, including medical, osteopathic and dental schools, veterinary schools, schools of public health, pharmacy schools, nursing schools, universities and colleges, public and voluntary hospitals and others that can demonstrate the ability to conduct the proposed research. Applications will not be accepted for work with funding to be administered through any federal institution or work to be performed by a federal employee, except for Veterans Administrations employees. Funding is prohibited for awards at non-U.S. institutions.

Research Partnership Programs for Winter 2016
|AHA/DuPont Nutrition & Health Grant-in-Aid Award|
Special funding is made available from DuPont Nutrition & Health to support an investigator interested in innovative basic, clinical or translational research projects directly related to isolated soy protein research.
Interested parties should submit a Grant-in-Aid application to their local affiliate.
AHA Enduring Hearts Foundation Research Award
The Enduring Hearts Foundation is working together with the American Heart Association (AHA) to establish a research award for investigators conducting research specific to solid organ transplantation longevity.
AHA/ASA/AANI Lawrence M. Brass, MD Stroke Research Award
Special funding is available from the American Academy of Neurology Institute to support a training award for an individual interested in embarking on a career in stroke research related to vascular neurology, stroke and neurocritical care.
AHA/CCF Pediatric Cardiomyopathy Joint Research Award
The Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) has partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to establish a research award for investigators conducting research specific to pediatric cardiomyopathy.
CCF will provide 50 percent of the research award to fund a project related to pediatric cardiomyopathy research. The AHA will provide the balance of the funds needed to fully fund the selected award.
Interested parties should submit a Grant-in-Aid to their local affiliate.
|AHA/Myocarditis Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Award|
Supports an investigator proposing innovative basic, clinical or translational research projects relevant to the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment epidemiology and/or prevention of myocarditis.
Interested parties should submit a postdoctoral fellowship application to their local affiliate.
The AHA's Grants@Heart site is a web-based system for application preparation, submission, peer review, and awards management. The system is available 24/7. An application for funding can be completed and submitted to the AHA online. Peer reviewers logon and complete all their tasks for peer review, and the system even allows for virtual meetings. Once an award is granted, the principal investigator and fiscal officer can manage the award online.
